The 2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy (CGA) announces the discontinuation of its Discretionary Fund until further notice.
For many years, the CGA has maintained a Discretionary Fund to provide assistance to those who are organising events that are aligned with the mandate of the CGA. The small grants made possible by this fund have contributed to a diverse and amazing range of projects, covering topics from art, to indigenous struggles, to the environment, and all with a particular focus on how these issues intersect with gender.
In the last year, the Centre has significantly expanded its programming and acquired a second location (at 1500 de Maisonneuve Ouest, Suite 404) that is more conducive to hosting public events. Since September, the orientation workshop series, Another Word for Gender; the Blue Print radio production workshop series to raise awareness about gendered violence; and the Peer Support and Advocacy volunteer training series have already seen dozens of events take place at the new office space.
We’ve also embarked on a new campaign to call for a Sexual Assault Centre at Concordia – a crucial need if Concordia is to be a safe learning environment for all students. In light of these developments, the CGA is suspending its Discretionary Fund until further notice in order to be able to better support the expansion of the Centre’s programming.
There are still opportunities to obtain support from the Centre for community projects. The CGA is happy to offer space to host your community organising meetings and events. It also has a photocopier that can be used to print materials for external projects, as well as megaphones, an audio recorder and a projector that can borrowed (please send an email to info[at]genderadvocacy.org to inquire about availability).
If you are organising an event that you think is a particularly good fit with the Centre’s mandate and would like the CGA to co-sponsor or co-organise the event, it may be possible to obtain some funding for this. Please contact the Programming and Campaigns Coordinator, Bianca Mugyenyi at campaigns[at]genderadvocacy.org to find out if your project is eligible.
The CGA wishes to thank all those who have accessed the Discretionary Fund over the years to create amazing events to share information, challenge assumptions, and build community. We look forward to continuing to partner with community organisations and individuals to work for a better world.
