We’ve made a small change to our name!

temporary logo place-holderDid you notice that we’ve stopped using the “2110” in our name? Here’s what’s up!

At our AGM on April 2, 2013, our membership voted to drop the number from our name. The number had referenced the address of our original (and still existing) office at 2110 Mackay, and came out of a tradition of naming LGBT-friendly spaces according to their address so that the name would be meaningful to its target population while not drawing the attention of those who are hostile to those who don’t fit into cis and hetero norms.

But a couple of things have changed since then. In October 2010 we opened a 2nd office at 1500 de Maisonneuve O., suite 404. We also wanted to ensure that the Centre’s name wasn’t alienating to those who weren’t in the know about the reason behind the name.

So that’s it. Nothing too complicated. A simple change to reflect new realities.

Fun fact: Our first name was the Concordia Women’s Centre, then the Dragonroot Centre, and then, of course, the 2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy.

Love,

Your friends at the Centre for Gender Advocacy
