Peer Support & Advocacy Volunteer Training Begins September 29th

illustration of unicornThe 2110 Centre for Gender Advocacy offers confidential support services through its volunteer Peer Support and Advocacy (PSA) program, which operates on principles of empowerment, harm reduction and self-determination. The program is staffed by volunteers who have undergone training so they can be there to actively listen and help you find resources.

The 2110 invites you to our 2012 workshop training series! All trainings take place at 1500 de Maisonneuve West #404 unless otherwise specified.

NOTE: Weekend trainings are open only to those aiming to become PSA volunteers. Please get in touch for more info if this interests you. All other trainings are open to the public.

Sat September 29, 9am-4pm*
Patriarchy, Privilege and Safer Space with Emma & Viann (with the help of Noah, Kota and Oliver)
This workshop will be the foundation of the PSA training this year and most of the training team will be there. You will hear different perspectives on patriarchy, you’ll learn about privileges and how to recognize your own, and we’ll create our own definition of what a safer space is.

Active Listening with Kota
Active listening is the most important aspect of Peer Support. This training session is where you will learn how to transform the listening skills you already have into something that will help people make sense of their world and their lives.

Harm Reduction with Noah
Chances are that if you think only of drug-use when you hear the words “harm reduction,” you’ll get our mind blown by this workshop. Come and learn about how non-judgement and understanding of others’ habits, behaviors and coping mechanisms can be empowering and lead to better living.
